Group of industrialized countries whose political, economic, and military weight is of great relevance in the world. Its members are Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Russia. Its formation began in 1973 with the G-5; Italy joined in 1975 (G-6), Canada in 1977 (G-7), and Russia in 1998 (G-8). The purpose of its meetings is to analyze the state of international politics and the economy and to try to make consensus decisions in this regard.
